You may have seen this little political confection from will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, and either been a) inspired to tears or b) feeling a bit sick at the slightly fascistic overtones.
There had to be a parody. Just didn’t think it would be this soon, this funny, or this effective - as an attack ad against John McCain.
Verdicts - Ben Smith of Politico says it’s the opening shot of the generational war. ABC’s Jake Tapper plays it straight. It was a bit like chum for Daily Kos readers - though quite a few were wary it would piss off ‘the other side’. I suppose, having until recently been on that other side, I think I would have still thought it was funny. And effective. One suspects we will see a few more collected WTF moments from McCain on YouTube this year.
Seems like the most effective Web 2.0 event of the campaign. My other highlights:
The Clintons as The Sopranos
The Unauthorised Obama 1984 Ad
McCain Slams Romney With YouTube reference in debate
William Kristol fluently cites Daily Kos as authority on New York Times oped page
Any other nominees?
