Wasn’t some Slate commentator writing only last week about why she should pull out the race to retain her dignity?

This is purely tactical. Clinton is essentially saying “a vote for me today is a vote for Obama tomorrow - trust me!” She’ll never take him on as a running mate, but she just might fool enough fence-sitters in the meantime to get the nomination.

JC: Long fight good for him, not so much for her. She’s now a hate figure inside the Democratic Party as well as outside of it.
If he can’t win a decisive battle (like Texas or now Pennsylvania), the perception that he has a glass jaw and can’t close…
Jon: course it’s tactical - and if Rep. Lacy Clay is to be believed, it won’t matter because Tom Brokaw’s superdelegate bomb is going to go off today.
