Election Night on RTÉ

June 4th, 2008 · No Comments

Good session last night on Rachel English’s Late Debate on RTÉ Radio 1…though not much of a chance to get a dialogue going with Niall O’Dowd, who really needed to be asked how much Kool Aid he’d already quaffed in the Clinton bunker. Niall Stanage, who’s been doing some really good stuff at the New York Observer this election, was I thought on point. And Margaret E Ward, whom I hadn’t met in person, was I think a lot more gracious and fun to chat with than her candidate was last night.

Many thanks to Bernie and Conor via their Tweets for metaphor crowdsourcing. I did settle on Obama upset over Clinton being like Munster beating the All Blacks in the end.

But listening to Niall O’Dowd over these last couple of months, especially last night, virtually demanding that Hillary be given the vice presidency (with an explicit “or else”), one wonders if after 17 years of interpreting Clinton’s America for Ireland and peace process Ireland for America, whether we’re at the end of that era as well.
