Íñigo Méndez De Vigo, Spanish MEP, on PrimeTime last night.*
Granted, Mark Little’s going to get a gig reffing WWE matches after a few more debates like this one, but that’s because Méndez was one of the best media performers I’ve seen. He was pretty persuasive. Like explaining how Ireland managed to negotiate a fair deal for smaller countries, giving them equal time for a commissioner; and addressing another key issue, the democratic deficit. Before Lisbon, the European Parliament has oversight of just 20% of the EU budget. After Lisbon, it has oversight of 100%.
Why weren’t these arguments being made effectively, instead of the shallow ad hominem attacks?
* If someone has figured out how to edit down the ivr RealPlayer files RTÉ is using, let me know. Seems weird for broadcasters - who are waking up to the fact that blogged clips (with their network logo) are going to increase their total audience - to rely on a format designed to frustrate your desire not to have to wade through 30 minutes of video to come to the 30 seconds you actually want to see.

Jazz Biscuit has some work done on what to do it embed. I had done some editing myself to get to the pieces I wanted (with the assistance of another), I will take another look at it today and post something.

Thanks Dan - I’ll hunt around for that.

Richard, I posted some details on how to focus on a specific part of the clip and also linking to the piece from Jazz Biscuit. It’s not pretty but it is doable.
