The Secret Lisbon Poll (ctd)

June 19th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Cian at Irish Election picks up the thread. Conor at Dublin Opinion got there Tuesday morning, as did we. Mick Fealty also picks up the story at Slugger.

A little crowdsourcing today - formerly known as asking around - reveals that a lot of inquiries to Eurobarometer received the following, identical, reply…the last one provided in comments by Sinn Fein’s Killian Forde:

Thank you for your interest in the eurobarometer. However, I would like to inform you that :
- the report has not been published yet , and what’s in the press did not come from our services.
- We are still in the process of compiling and collating the data
- We will publish the results when we are satisfied that they are reliable and accurate
- We expect that to be this week

Best regards,
EB TEAM

One gets the sense that the Indo’s source Tuesday may not have been the good folks at Eurobarometer. So, if the Irish Times story is accurate, and we believe Eurobarometer, the source(s) for the two stories - with implications for why someone would selectively leak results - could include any of the following likely suspects:

- Taoiseach Brian Cowen’s office (which according to the IT co-commissioned the poll)
- The market research company (identity of which still unknown)
- Barroso’s office

STILL nothing on the Eurobarometer website.

In a word, this is bullshit.
