Debate Reactions: Tie Goes to the Guy Who’s Ahead

October 8th, 2008 · No Comments

David Gergin makes a point on CNN I’ve been thinking…Obama helped himself with women, if the dial groups are any guide.

Did the town hall setting advantage McCain? Not as much as we’d thought. Obama got comfortable quickly and started walking the floor like a cat. McCain looked like that robot vacuum that goes in a random direction, hits a wall, bounces off and goes in a different direction. Weird.

CNN panel says McCain didn’t get the breakthrough he needed. Guess he’ll need to keep whipping up the crowds saying that Obama’s a terrorist. How was that not a question, by the way? “Senator McCain, comments about Obama made by your running mate in Florida yesterday incited a member of the crowd to yell ‘kill him’. Is this really the sort of campaign you want to run?”

McCain was fluid and strong with his answers at the end on foreign policy. It’s only when you realise that McCain is supposed to crush Obama a) in town halls and b) on foreign policy that you notice that because you could argue the toss, even with all the natural advantages for McCain, that McCain has blown his last best chance. The bar for the 3rd debate is now incredibly high for McCain.

UPDATE: McCain refuses to shake Obama’s hand? Obama offered McCain his hand to shake. McCain left him hanging. Wolf Blitzer on CNN sees it, takes a breath, says, “it’s clear that McCain feels disdain for Obama”. That clip’s gonna get a lot of play.
